Misdemeanor appeals

In the event of a misdemeanor conviction following a trial, an individual has the right to file an appeal in every case.  If the conviction occurs following a plea, certain legal issues can also be appealed.  Where it is decided that such appeal should be filed, the Private Defender Program can be appointed to represent the individual.

Felony appeals can be initiated by your Private Defender Program lawyer, upon request, by filing a notice of appeal. However, the appeal will then be referred to the First District Appellate Project for further representation.
